Katwa Kigen was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1996. , practices law at Katwa and Kemboy Advocates in Nairobi. He holds a Master in Laws and Bachelor of Laws LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Nairobi and a diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law. His main area of practice is Civil Litigation in the following areas: Banking, Insurance, Medical Negligence and Malpractice issues, Land disputes, Commercial Transactions, International Trade, Construction and Environmental Law, Judicial Review, Criminal Law, Public International Law Claims, Employment, Debt Collection, Criminal Law, Arbitration and Mediation. Katwa Kigen mainly handles matters before the international criminal law, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, the High Court, the Industrial Court and other specialized Tribunals.
Experience• Senior Counsel Katwa Kigen became well known as the advocate who represented radio reporter Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC) following Kenya's post-election violence in 2007/08.
• Successfully represented Jacque Maribe, a Journalist in a murder case that resulted in her acquittal due to lack of prosecution evidence. The matter had national interest.
• Represented former Cabinet Secretary, Treasury, Henry Rotich in an anticorruption case and cleared in the Sh63 billion Arror and Kimwarer graft case.
• Acted pro bono, for victim families in a criminal prosecution against serving police officers accused of having murdered a lawyer, the client and taxi driver. The incident raised national and international outrage.
